Typology
Research - August Sanders
The art of typologies goes back to 1929 when August Sanders created a series of portraits called 'Face of our time', which is a collection of of photos documenting German society between the two world wars. This creates a record of social class and the relationship seen between them. The term typology was first used to describe a type of photography when Bernd and Hilla Becher started documenting German architecture in 1959.
Not only did Bernd and Hilla Becher take typologies but other photographers such as Jef Brouws, Rachel Been, James Mollison, and Kevin Bauman do also.
Jeff Brouws
One typologist I like the work of is Jeff Brouws as his work is mostly really colourful, below are some examples.
